About Mexborough

Mexborough is a town on the outskirts of Doncaster, South Yorkshire with a population approaching 15000. Actors Brian Blessed and Keith Baron were both born in the town as was the former poet laureate Ted Hughes. Nearby places are Abdy, Adwick upon Dearne, Barnburgh, Bolton upon Dearne, Cadeby, Conisbrough, Denaby, Goldthorpe, High Melton, Hill Top, Hooton Roberts, Newhill, Ravenfield, Swinton, Thrybergh and Wath upon Dearne.

Travel & Transport

By Road Mexorough is about 8 miles south west of Doncaster, approached by the A630-A6023 Doncaster Road. The main Motorways to the town are the M18 and A1(M).

Mexborough railway station is on the former Great Central Railway Sheffield to Doncaster line. It has two platforms and is served only by stopping services.Mexborough was originally the junction where the Sheffield.

River Don

Mexborough is built on the north bank of the River Don. The river rises in the Pennines and flows for 70 miles eastwards, through the Don Valley, via Penistone, Sheffield, Rotherham, Mexborough, Conisbrough, Doncaster and Stainforth. It joins the River Ouse at Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Mexborough Castle is located in the town centre, overlooking the River Don in a public park.

Mexborough Market

Mexborough has a historic market dating back more than 800 years.The outer market is located in the heart of town and. there is a purpose built Market Hall. There are more than 90 stalls with a wide range of produce on offer, with free parking adjacent to the Market.
